The Disappearing Meadow Story

I live in the Dundas Valley

This was the meadow where we ate and slept.  We traveled through the woods and stayed off the busy roads. Our protected deer yard was beautiful in the summer.

It was safe and sheltered in the winter.

The Niagara Escarpment Commission and City of Hamilton said it was in an Escarpment Protection and Environmentally Sensitive area.

But now I’m worried.  Now, people with big machines are building a monster home beside my meadow.

The NEC said it would be okay, though - the meadow is outside of the approved development zone.  They said it is protected.

But, now, what’s that noise?  Where did the trees go?  Why is that bulldozer uprooting trees in the protected deer yard?  It is working well outside the development zone

Now, piles of dirt and roots and snow cover my meadow.   There is lots of other room on the construction site for debris.   Fences now block my wildlife corridors.   There is a wooded pond up in those woods.   I liked to drink there, but now I cannot reach it.

They have turned my meadow into a dump.  Nothing can grow there this summer.  Where will I eat and sleep?  Where can I shelter in the winter?

What have they done to my meadow?
     Why is this proceeding, unchecked?
Where are the NEC and the City of Hamilton?

They say the meadow is supposed to remain natural.
Why won’t they stop this construction outside the development zone?

Why Won’t They Help Me?
